On Friday, for the third consecutive day, a huge boom was recorded in the industrial city of Pimpri-Chinchwad. COVID-19 Cases Over 1,000 positive cases were reported on Friday, a figure last recorded six months ago.
However, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration said most of these cases are “mild” and do not require hospitalisation.
The spike in positive cases started this month. Last month, the positive cases had gone below 50 on a daily basis. On January 1, 112 positive cases were registered. After this it reached 590 (on Wednesday), 817 (Thursday) and finally 1,000 cases on Friday.
Active cases in the city are also following the same path. On Friday, over 3,115 active cases were reported, which is almost eight times more in seven days. The positivity rate has also been on an upward trend.
In December, for the first time in 18 months, the positivity rate had fallen below 1 per cent. Now, the positivity rate is more than 10 per cent within a span of seven days.
The head of the medical department of PCMC, Dr Laxman Gofane told Indian Express That they expect the cases to escalate further. “This is the trend everywhere in the world. Be it in South Africa or the UK, cases first suddenly increased and then decreased. We also expect that it will be on similar lines … the cases will increase and then there will be a big drop, “They said.
Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil, Facebook Live session, appealing citizens not to panic in view of the increasing cases of Kovid.
