Panchkula: Two out of four lawyers assaulted at birthday party, DBA threatens to strike

Four persons, including two lawyers, were allegedly attacked with sticks and iron rods by 10-12 bouncers and their employer during a birthday party. They have been identified as Inder, Chetan and two lawyers Gaurav Sikhri and Tarun Sharma.

The incident took place on Saturday night and early Sunday at a resort on Morni Road near Nada village. A case has been registered against two unknown and two unknown accused. Both the accused have been identified as Abhinav and Harpal. Sikri and Sharma were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

Responding to the incident, the District Bar Association Panchkula issued a statement, informed by Ketan Khurana Advocate Secretary that DBA will go on strike if arrest is not made within 24 hours.

The complainant, Sector 11 resident Gaurav Sikri said that the incident took place on Saturday night when he was hosting his birthday party at the resort Marina Bay along with his associates and friends.

“Around 12 o’clock, the resort’s attendants shifted all the guests to a hall room. Two hours later, two of my friends, Inder and Chetan, tried to re-enter the hall room after coming back from the washroom. However, the bouncers did not allow him despite repeated attempts and slammed him to the ground. Meanwhile, Abhinav came to the spot and dared to teach a lesson to both of them. Hearing the cries, two of my lawyer friends Tarun Sharma and Lavish Arora and I reached the spot. Despite this, they kept beating our friends. Tarun intervened but they attacked him too and then attacked me and the other guests. They punched Tarun in the face, breaking his upper teeth. The accused hit my left hand with an iron rod, causing a fracture in my elbow,” reads FIR,

“Later, they dragged Tarun to the side of the road outside the resort. Somehow, all four of us fled the spot and hid in the bushes to save our lives,” the FIR further read.

Then Sikhri’s colleague Lavish Arora shouted for help after which another colleague Manoj Arora reached the spot. According to the complaint, Manoj then called up SHO Chandimandir and DCP Mohit Handa, whose office requested Manoj to dial 112. A PCR vehicle then reached the spot around 2:30.

“Despite the arrival of the police, Abhinav, the main accused, bragged that he had links with the police department as the police took bribe from him to allow him to run the resort,” said Sikhri.

Sikri also alleged that the accused snatched the gold chain from Sharma’s neck during the attack. A case was registered at Chandimandir police station under sections 148, 149, 323, 325, 341, 379-B and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

Inspector Lalit Kumar, SHO of Chandimandir police station, said that they have not arrested any accused in the case so far.
