Chandigarh, June 21

Within 24 hours of his arrest in a corruption case, Punjab IAS officer Sanjay Popli is in further trouble by filing a fresh FIR against him under the Arms Act. Another complaint has been leveled against him for demanding commission in a government project.

Vigilance Bureau officials found unaccounted live cartridges from his house during a search today. They found 73 bullets (41 of 7.65 bore, 30 of .22 bore and two of .32 bore) from his house. A case has been registered under Arms Act at Sector 11 Police Station Chandigarh. However, sources say that Popli does not have any licensed weapon.

Vigilance sources said a contractor from Abohar had complained to the state government’s anti-corruption helpline that the IAS officer took 1 per cent cut from him for water supply and sewerage projects.

The inquiry into the fresh complaint will be part of the investigation in relation to the FIR against the IAS officer lodged last evening. Popli was arrested late last evening on the basis of a complaint by Sanjay Kumar of Karnal that he had demanded one per cent commission for clearing the tender for Rs 7.30 crore sewerage project in Nawanshahr.
