Not sure when and where Jacob deGrom will make his next debut

The Mets were somewhat unclear about the next steps jacob degroms A potential return to rotation, on Sunday the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner threw a side session and will begin another minor league rehab.

New York manager Buck Showalter said ahead of Sunday’s game San Diego That he had not seen a side session at Citi Field, and that he would not publicly reveal where and when DeGrom would pitch next.

DeGrom, a 34-year-old right-hander, has not featured in the major leagues since July 7 last year. He missed the second half of last season with a right arm sprain and a sprained elbow and was sidelined late in spring training by a stress reaction in his right shoulder.

Showalter said of DeGrome’s next outing, “I have to act like it’s not going to happen here. I’d be an idiot if I didn’t.”

DeGrom has performed three injury rehabilitation in minors. He bowled 24 pitches in 1 2/3 innings on 3 July and 36 pitches in three innings on 8 July, both for Class A St. Lucie, then 42 overs in four innings for Triple-A Syracuse on 14 July.

“We’ll see how he feels tomorrow and what the plans are for him somewhere during the coming week. And we’ll see where it takes us,” Showalter said. “I know what the plan is. But if something happens that deviates us from that plan, we’ll do what we have a couple of times, just barely a day or two.”

Right-hander Trevor May threw 14 pitches on Sunday during an innings appearance for Double-A Binghamton, scoring one hit and one out.

Haven’t pitched for May Mets Due to swelling of the right triceps since May 2. Showalter said May would pitch in the minors on back-to-back days before being active.
