No NEET-PG counseling till decision on EWS reservation issue, Center tells SC

The Center on Monday assured the Supreme Court that the counseling for the NEET post graduate medical course for 2021 will not begin until the court decides a pending matter related to reservation for EWS in NEET All India Quota.

Additional Solicitor General KM Nataraja gave this information to a bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud, which told him, “Mr. Nataraja, we are following you for this.”

In this case, the petitioners have sought quashing of the July 29 notification declaring 27 per cent reservation for OBCs and 10 per cent for EWS in AIQ starting from the academic session 2021-22.

On Monday, senior advocate Arvind Datar told the bench that the dates for counseling have been fixed. “They (October) have released a complete schedule starting from 24th and ending on 29th,” he told the court. ASG Natraj explained that “this notice which you have caught was only for the purpose of verification of seats for colleges”.

Intervening, the bench told the ASG that it would take its stand that till the court decides on the petitions, the counseling will not start.
