Niagara Regional Police is searching for the driver behind an accused hit and run In which a 70-year-old pedestrian died.

They say officials responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle in Chippawa, a community in the south, shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday Niagara FallsOnt.

Officials reached the spot when the condition of the 70-year-old woman was critical. He later died in the hospital.

Police say the woman was crossing the road when she was hit by a pickup truck whose driver allegedly fled the spot to search her without stopping.

Police have since seized the suspect vehicle but the search for the driver is on.

The police are asking anyone to contact detectives for information.
