New SP MLA, 200 workers booked for raising ‘pro-Pak slogans’

One FIR was registered against the newly elected Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Syeda Khatoon and over 200 party workers on Thursday allegedly raised “pro-Pakistan” slogans after she (Khatoon) was declared the winner from Domariaganj seat in Siddharth Nagar. On Saturday, the Siddharth Nagar police arrested five people – all locals – in connection with the case.

Khatoon, however, denied the allegations and claimed that the police were “harassing” him by registering a “false case”. An FIR has been registered at Domariaganj police station on the complaint of senior sub-inspector Ramakant Saroj. A video was shared on social media on Friday in which people celebrating Sayeda Khatoon’s victory can purportedly be heard raising “pro-Pakistan” slogans, police said.

Domariaganj Circle Officer Ajay Kumar Srivastava said that the police have so far identified 15 people from the mob. He said the alleged role of the MLA and others is being probed.

When contacted, Khatoon said, “Police is trying to harass our party workers and I will take up the issue with higher authorities.” We suspected that some outsiders tried to mingle with the group and allegedly raised slogans.
