NC State guard Terquavian Smith was stretchered off the court after a horrific fall at the basket during the Wolfpack’s 80-69 loss. North Carolina Saturday.
Smith, the leading scorer in the ACC, suffered a horrific concussion and had to be carried off the court with 9:45 remaining in the second half.
The second player stormed the rim and tried to eliminate a left-handed runner but North Carolina’s leaky Black Arm caught Smith in the face as he attempted to block the shot.

The NC State guard fell backward and hit the floor hard. As he fell, Smith appeared to try to support himself with his right arm and the program later announced that he had suffered elbow and neck injuries.
Black was assessed a flagrant 2 foul and ejected from the game.
Immediately after hitting the hardwood at Smith Center, the guard received medical attention as his teammates gathered around him.

He remained down on the court for several minutes, while several of his teammates appeared to be upset and worried.
After she was tended to by trainers, she was lifted onto a stretcher and taken off the court, before being taken to the hospital.
After the game, NC State coach Kevin Keats said: ‘Our thoughts and prayers are with Terquavian right now.
‘It’s a very emotional situation for me right now. … In moments like these my prayers and my thoughts always go out to my players.’
His teammates gathered around Smith as he looked troubled by many
The coach said he believed his players handled the situation well after Smith was injured.
‘Our guys are really close, a close-knit bunch,'” Keats said. ‘I thought we’d handle it in the best way we could.’
No details were released on Smith’s condition, but the player posted on Twitter late on Saturday: ‘I’m fine, appreciate all the prayers and concern.
Smith, who finished with 12 points before the injury, is a projected second-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, according to Sports Illustrated.

Following Smith’s injury, North Carolina led 34–33 at the break, and then posted a dominant second half.
Armando Bacot broke a tie with Billy Cunningham and set a North Carolina record with his 61st career double-double. He also surpassed Tyler Hansbrough for first place on UNC’s career rebounding list, 1,221–1,219.
The Tar Heels (14-6, 6-3), who have won three in a row and nine of the last 11, improved to 10-0 at home this season, including 5-0 in ACC play.
The loss snapped North Carolina State’s four-game winning streak.
