He said this at the virtual summit organized by China of the Group of Five Countries.

The PM made the remarks in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“Today for the third year in a row, we are meeting virtually amidst the challenges of the COVID pandemic. Even though the scale of the pandemic has reduced globally, many of its ill effects are still visible on the global economy,” PM Modi said.

“We, the BRICS member countries, share a common view about governance of the global economy. Our mutual cooperation can make a useful contribution to the global recovery of COVID,” PM Modi said.

He said that several institutional reforms in BRICS have increased the effectiveness of the organisation. He said, “It is a matter of happiness that the membership of New Development Bank has increased. There are many areas where the lives of our citizens are benefiting from our mutual cooperation.”
