Men accused of Madison Brooks rape claim video proves their innocence

Lawyers for two men accused of raping a Louisiana State University student before abandoning her in the street, where she was later fatally struck by a car, have claimed that video of the alleged sexual assault proves it. states that she was in a “coherent state” and consented to the acts.

According to investigators, the victim and the four suspects met at a bar on January 14 before he allegedly asked them to drop him off. Mr. Carver told officers that Mr. Washington and the unidentified minor asked the victim to have sex with him, but admitted she was intoxicated, stumbling and slurring her words.

After the attack, the men dropped her off in a neighborhood near Pelican Lake Parkway. Brooks, who was standing in a dark stretch of road at around 3 a.m., was struck by a vehicle and died hours later in hospital.

Carver told police that despite his intoxicated state, the two suspects had sexual intercourse with him inside the car. He later said that he “felt uncomfortable and hated it.”

When asked by investigators whether he believed Brooks was too incompetent to consent, Mr. Carver reportedly said, “I think so.”

An autopsy confirmed that Brooks had suffered injuries consistent with a sexual assault attack, the warrant said.

LSU President William F. Tate said the university plans to investigate why the establishment where the victim met the suspects was serving alcohol to minors.

“Madison was a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a niece, a classmate and a friend to many of you. In all ways, she was a wonderful young woman with immense potential,” Mr Tate said in a statement .

“He should not have been taken from us like this. What happened to him was bad, and our legal system will pervert justice.

He continued: “In the coming days, we will convene a meeting with these business owners to discuss how their responsibilities directly affect the safety of our students. We will openly act against any business that that does not add to the efforts to create a safe environment for our students. Enough is enough.”
