Many injured in Ugandan blast amid rising terror threat

“I am aware that three people came to Kavira and left a packet, which later exploded, killing one person and injuring five others,” the president tweeted.

“It appears to be a terrorist act,” he said, “we will catch the perpetrators.”

Ugandan Police Chief Political Commissioner Asan Kasingye said later on Saturday that two people were killed, Reuters reported.

The blast happened on Saturday.

While police are investigating the incident, President Museveni said, “The public should not be afraid, we will defeat this crime.”

On Sunday, police and explosives experts were seen at the blast site, which was surrounded by officers.

Britain and France last week warned of a growing terror threat in Uganda.

Britain advised travelers that “terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Uganda,” and that “attacks can be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.”
