Man City star Benjamin Mendy released on bail

Today he was granted bail by Judge Patrick Thompson at a private hearing at Chester Crown Court, which kept the press out of the courtroom.

Mendy is charged with eight crimes against five different women, including seven rape cases involving four women. and sexual assault of another alleged victim.

He allegedly raped a woman while on police bail in August before coming into custody 134 days earlier in September.

The Premier League star, who signed for Manchester City for £90,000-a-week for £52million, has been told he will be subject to ‘stringent’ conditions while on bail.

Mendy was supposed to go on trial this month, but has now been turned back in June at the earliest. He has been granted bail till January 24, until another pre-trial hearing.

Benjamin Mendy’s charges complete

Three cases of rape of a woman on October 11, 2020, allegedly took place at her home in Prestbury, Cheshire.

The sexual assault by touching another woman on January 2, 2021, allegedly took place at their home in Prestbury, Cheshire.

The France international was today granted bail at Chester Crown Court following an application by his defense team.

Judge Patrick Thompson made the decision after denying prosecutors a request to extend the time limit for Mendy’s custody.

Mendy was told that while on bail, “severe” conditions would apply to him.

The charges against him include three counts of rape, allegedly committed on 11 October 2020, sexual assault on 2 January 2021, one count of rape on 24 July 2021 and two counts of rape on 23 August 2021.

Last month, Mendy was charged with another rape in July last year.

Edwin Court, Eccles’ co-defendant, 40-year-old Louis Saha Maturi, had already been charged with six counts of rape and one sexual assault.

The allegations pertain to the four complainants who are above 16 years of age and reportedly took place between March 2021 and August 2021.

But Ian Unsworth QC told prosecutors that new charges of rape and sexual assault have been authorized and Maturi will appear in court in those cases at an appropriate time.

The two new charges pertain to the existing complainant.

Mendy and Maturi were due to face trial later this month, but the date has been tentatively moved to June 27.

Both men will next be produced in court on January 24.

Citi suspended the left-back in August pending an investigation.

The club said in a statement at the time: ‘The matter is subject to a legal process and therefore until this process is completed, the club is unable to comment further.’
