Man charged after allegedly pouring petrol on toddler in Mount St Thomas, Wollongong

Man poured petrol on a one-year-old girl and allegedly smashed a glass on her mother’s head as she desperately tried to wash the toxic substance off her daughter’s face

A man has been charged with allegedly drowning a one-year-old girl petrolAnd hit his mother on the head with a glass.

Police were called to a house in Mount St. Thomas, Wollongong, South Sydney After 8 pm on Tuesday night on the report of domestic assault.

A 41-year-old man allegedly abused a 48-year-old woman in the house before the mother and daughter went to another room.

The mother tried to use a pram to lock the door, but the man allegedly forcibly entered inside and poured petrol on the child.

As the woman tried to wash the toxic substance off her daughter’s face, he allegedly broke a glass on her head.

The mother and daughter managed to escape from the house and called the police.

The man was charged with three counts of assault, destruction or damage to property, and intimidation with intent to cause fear and bodily harm.

He was denied bail to appear in the Wollongong local court on Wednesday.

The one-year-old was treated by paramedics and did not require hospital treatment.
