London Knights don new look with 6-2 win over Guelph Storm – London | globalnews.ca

The London Knights unveiled a new uniform on Tuesday night then defeated the Guelph Storm 6-2 in the first meeting of the season between the teams.

London scored six unanswered goals in the game to extend their winning streak to five games.

Five different players had multi-point games on the nights.

Isaiah George, Easton Cowan, George Diakko and Ryan Del Monte each had a goal and an assist. Denver Barkey had a pair of assists that extended his point streak to nine games.

A power play goal from Danny Zhilkin and an equal strength goal from Valentin Zhugin within the first 8:15 of opening time gave Guelph a 2–0 lead.

London took the London man advantage at 11:40 on a banked shot from George Diako into the back of the Storm net.

The Knights tied the game in the final seconds of the first when Denver Barkey took a pass across the Guelph blue line and drew four Storm defenders. Barkey found Easton Cowan going over the net and Cowan held off Storm goaltender Jacob Oster with 0.2 seconds to go.

Isaiah George’s second goal of the season in the second period gave London their first lead of the game and it was one they did not give back.

Ruslan Gazizov found a puck in a scrum and scored to make it 4–2 at 12:22 of the second period, and then Ryan Del Monte swooped in behind the Guelph net, stole the puck, and scored to give the Knights three goals. The lead going into the third period.

Logan Mailloux completed the scoring with a power play goal as he ripped in a shot from the right just 28 seconds into the final period.

The Knights defeated the Storm 24–19.

Marner one game away from history

Mitch Marner made a layup past Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso that not only turned out to be the eventual game winner in a 4–2 Toronto victory, it extended Marner’s point streak to 17 games.

He is one game away from the all-time Maple Leafs record. It is shared by Eddie Olzik and another former Knight in Darryl Sittler. Marner and the Maple Leafs hosted the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, November 30.

Brochu’s Big Week

Knights goalkeeper Brett Brochu has touched a new level in the last nine days. Brochu faced a season-HG 42 shots at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and made 39 saves.

It was the Belle River, Ontario, native’s 100th career game in the Ontario Hockey League. He then continued with his fifth career shutout and made 28 saves in a 4–0 win over the Kitchener Rangers. Brochu had some of his biggest saves in game three for the Oshawa Generals as he brushed aside 34 shots in London’s 4–2 victory.

Brochu posted a .934 save percentage in the three games.

The Knights went on the road again when they met the Erie Otters at the Erie Insurance Arena to close out 12 games played in November.

London goes into the game with the best road record in the OHL, but they will be looking for their first win this year against the Otters. Erie is 2-0 in two games against the Knights this season.
