Local library hosts its first tattoo fundraiser

Anne Arundel, MD – The Anne Arundel County Public Library is trying a more sustainable approach to bringing newcomers to the library. On Saturday, he hosted his first tattoo fundraiser.

Guests can choose from a range of literary-themed tattoos, with 40% of profits going toward funding all 16 library branches in the county. The event was in partnership with The Library Foundation and a local tattoo shop called Lucky Bird.

Christine Feldman, director of marketing and communications for the library, says the fundraiser was inspired by a similar program in Denver.

“Tattoo fundraisers have been around for a while, and many tattoo studios in the area are involved in supporting different parts of the community,” Feldman said. “When the development coordinator, Gina Grove, got a tattoo done at Lucky Bird in November 2021, she thought, ‘Why not a library tattoo fundraiser?’ The concept of phenomenon evolved from there.”

Tattoos cost between $100 to $600. If you missed the chance, don’t worry. The library says that due to the high demand for the shop, the library is already in talks with planning future events like this one.

Christine says that generous donations to the library go a long way in serving her community better. “When the pandemic struck, thanks to community donors, we were able to pick up and build curbside pickup, install outdoor Wi-Fi, and craft kits for curious families. Donating to the library helps the community now and in the future. “
