Limited services at Quebec auto insurance board leave drivers without cars Globalnews.ca

Automobile Insurance Board of Quebec is undergoing a massive overhaul of its online platform, which means many services are currently unavailable, and the transition has left some drivers with nowhere to turn.

Quebec Automobile Insurance Company (sock) has suspended many services during the transition period, which begins on 26 January until launch on 20 February.

“We are in a digital transformation,” said SAAQ spokesman Gino Desrosiers. He said some of the agency’s older systems date back to the 1980s and need updating.

The goal, Desrosiers said, is to provide a more modern experience to Quebecers. , and to be able to provide some of its services online and cut down on waiting times at SAAQ outlets. He said the transition work is being done 24 hours a day to convert 10 billion pieces of data in time for launch.

During the next few weeks, only a few regular offers of socks are available. For example, a driver cannot register a new vehicle. Car dealerships must provide a temporary registration certificate to everyone who buys a car until the SAAQ is fully back up and running later next month.

For Cathy Sanssouci, it doesn’t help at all. He bought a van from another person, not from the dealership, but when they came to the SAAQ outlet on Tuesday to finalize the transaction, it could not be done.

She had recently had surgery and needed a vehicle to be able to move around with her children.

“We’re upset, we’re mad,” she said. “We don’t know what to do. We need a car.

Souci said that SAARC had not planned properly for the transition phase.

“You guys decide to change a system that’s been around since (roughly) the 1980s, okay. I understand but we all think about the customers.

Learner drivers who have completed their driving course cannot apply and obtain their learner’s permit. The Automobile Insurance Board will also not issue a certificate for the winter tire exemption.

Quebecers who wish to replace or renew their health insurance cards cannot visit SAAQ outlets in person during the transition phase. Anyone who needs to do so should contact the Régime de l’Assurance Méladie du Québec, the province’s health insurance board.

SAAQ says many services are still available, including replacement of lost or stolen licences, impoundment and release of cars from road vehicle inspection. Full list can be found online,

The board says its new online platform will be operational on February 20 and outlets for “essential services” will remain open till that date.
