Chandigarh, December 24
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday alleged a conspiracy behind recent cases of sacrilege and blasts and said a “weak government” has failed to break the ruling Punjab’s whip.
The Delhi Chief Minister, who is visiting Punjab, also termed the narcotics case against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia as a “political stunt”.
A bomb exploded in the district court complex in Ludhiana on Thursday, killing one person and injuring six others, prompting the Punjab government to declare a high alert in the state.
Police suspect that the person killed in the blast may have been trying to assemble or plant an explosive device.
“A few days back, cases of sacrilege were reported. Now there is a blast in Ludhiana. Before the elections, such incidents are being done under a conspiracy to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the state. This is the handiwork of some people,” Kejriwal said during an interaction with reporters in Amritsar.
He said that he has full faith in the people of Punjab and they will defeat the nefarious designs of those who try to create tension.
Targeting the Channi-led government, he said, “The government of Punjab is weak. They (leaders of the ruling party) are fighting amongst themselves. Punjab needs an honest strong government which can take action against those involved in the conspiracies.
He said the person who tried to vandalize the Golden Temple must have been sent by some influential person to stir up tension and several cases of sacrilege have come to the fore in the last five years.
“Until a strong government is not formed, such incidents will continue to happen,” he said.
He promised an honest, strong and stable government that would punish the guilty.
The AAP chief also criticized the Congress over the drug menace in the state and said the government had promised to wipe out the mafia within a month of forming the government during the last election campaign.
“The FIR has been registered during five years and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and State Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu are boasting over it,” he said.
Kejriwal said Punjab has a strong drug network, which includes powerful dealers.
When asked about Majithia, he said, “Just 10 days before the announcement of the election, he is boasting. It is only a political stunt,” he said.
The former minister was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act on Monday based on the status report of the 2018 drug racket investigation. PTI
