Jury finds Bill Cosby sexually assaulted 16-year-old girl at Playboy Mansion in 1975, awarding her $500,000

A jury on Tuesday ruled against Bill Cosby in a civil suit brought against him by a woman who said he sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in 1975, when she was 16.

Judy Huth testified that Cosby molested her. He accused her of trying to put his hand under his tight pants and exposing himself before forcing her to touch her sexually on a bed in the “blue room”, which she said was part of the game in the mansion. was adjacent to the room.

Huth, now 64, testified that Cosby kept following her after she told him she was “15 or 16.” She claims she told Cosby that she was on her period – even though she was not – in the hope that it would stop.

“I was trying to divert attention,” she said. “But he didn’t stop. I just closed my eyes. … It was too fast. Maybe five minutes. Instant.”

The jury awarded Huth $500,000 in damages.

Huth told reporters after the verdict that the jury’s conclusion that she was sexually assaulted was more important than the monetary amount.

“I was excited,” she said of hearing the verdict. “Seriously, it’s been so many years, so many tears.”

The trial represents one of the last remaining legal claims against Cosby. his Pennsylvania criminal conviction was thrown last year by an appeals court, The 84-year-old actor did not participate in the trial or testify.

During closing arguments, a lawyer for Bill Cosby told jurors that they needed to look at the public charges against him from years past and consider only the evidence presented by Huth.

Cosby’s defense team has focused on calling Huth a liar because he has changed the timeline of the story. In a 2014 trial, she said the attack took place in 1973 or 1974. But before the trial began, Huth and his lawyers said that further examination of the evidence allowed them to determine that it had indeed happened in the spring of 1975.

During closing arguments, Cosby attorney Jennifer Bonzen said that Huth and her attorneys “didn’t come close to proving her 50-year-old, she-said-she-said case”.

“Can you imagine how hard it is to defend a case when you start with the label of sexual predator?” Bonzen told the jurors, reminding them that they were chosen because they promised they would only be able to consider the facts presented in court. “If we were just going to try people based on label, why are there tests?”

Huth’s attorney, Nathan Goldberg, told the jury that “my client must be held accountable for what Mr. Cosby did.”

“Each of you knows in your heart that Mr Cosby sexually assaulted Miss Huth,” Goldberg said.

Huth said the decision was a retaliation.

“It has been torture; it is. Just to be scattered. You know, thrown under the bus, backed down, ”she said at a press conference. “And it’s such a big win for me, it really is – for all the victims.”
