A Kelowna man suffered a life-threatening injury while hiking on a commonly used trail black mountain region.
mike walchuk said he was a wolf pack and was able to portray the experience.
“I was just doing Saturday’s hike. (I) have been there half a dozen times about eight kilometers round. On the upper parts of the trail I came across an opening and initially saw a wolf and then shortly after black ,” Walchuk said.

Walchuk told Global News he was a little surprised by what he saw. He said that he soberly assessed the situation and ensured that no harm was done to him.
“They weren’t being aggressive, they were moving away from me.”
That’s when he decided to take some pictures.
“I haven’t really seen any evidence of (wolves). Just coyotes and maybe the odd deer,” Walchuk said.

“Wolves move around a lot, so they might be there just because.”

He says the sighting is rare but not surprising.
“A variety of wildlife runs through this area. There are herds of elk, coyotes. I’ve also heard reports of grizzly bears and black bears running through this area, so in some ways, it’s not entirely surprising that we’re here Looking at wolves. It’s exciting that someone has a picture of them,” Ford said.

There has been some concern about how close the pack is to the city but Ford says there are things people can do to reduce or prevent any danger.
“That means managing their food. Making sure we’re not leaving things behind. And certainly not trying to feed them so that we get a case of habitual, or food-situated animals , like we saw last year at Stanley Park in Vancouver, ”said Ford.

He said that when people are on the trails, it is important to be aware of their surroundings; Make lots of noise while keeping animals on a leash, and keep a safe distance from any wildlife they encounter.
