CHICAGO (WLS) — Melissa de la Garza was just 18 when she was shot while sitting inside her car on Saturday night. She had just reached her south-west side home after spending a day with her mother.

“It’s a nightmare,” said her grandmother, Clara de la Garza, in Spanish. “Who’s going to fill this hole? It’s unbelievable how this city is being consumed by violence.”

“He saw my sister sitting in the car. He was shouting her name and she was not responding. My dad opened the door and just grabbed her,” Isabel said.
