IFLA Hall of Fame Librarian Receives State Award for His Work

Dr. Neeza Singh working as Librarian at TS Central State Library who introduced innovative programs during COVID global pandemic To maintain an interest in reading, she said that she was thrilled to receive the state award for her commendable work for the upliftment of libraries and librarians in India on Independence Day.

He has been awarded for working for underprivileged children.

“We started several online programmes. Obviously, this was a challenging period for us as the library is a place where your physical presence matters. Although everything was new to us, we started conducting online competitions and workshops for our registered members,” she said, talking about how she promoted reading during the pandemic.

He arranged libraries in various states, including the Library Association of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and initiated programs such as storytelling, talks about favorite books, speeches and interactions with authors.

Talking about the award, she said, “I still can’t get over that wonderful feeling of being nominated first and then being awarded. I am grateful to my mother because she always supported me and it inspired me to never give up. I love this profession because it gives me a chance to serve the society to the fullest extent

In 2008, Dr. Niza Singh came up with the idea and started free workshops on personality development, theater and arts and crafts for children, allowing her and her parents to visit the library regularly. The result was so good that after a year, entry was banned and there has been no looking back since.

“I’m the only librarian Chandigarh Ever been elected to the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions and I am very proud of that.”
