The Hindu army had filed a petition against this in the Delhi High Court. ‘Adipurush’ demanded that the film not be certified for public exhibition. Hindu Sena National President Vishnu Gupta on Friday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court against ‘Adipurush Film’.

In the writ petition filed in the Delhi High Court, Mr. Gupta said, “This is a writ petition in the shape of a Public Interest Litigation under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issue of an appropriate writ in the nature of direction to the respondents Religious leaders/characters/figures shown in bad taste to remove objectionable scenes and direct the respondents not to certify the feature film Adipurush for public exhibition and pass such other or further orders Mandate has been issued for. deem fit and proper in the facts and circumstances of the case.”

The petition further alleged that the film “hurts the sentiments of the Hindu community by portraying religious leaders/characters/figures in a false and unwarranted manner”. “That the petitioner has preferred the said writ petition in the shape of a Public Interest Litigation against the feature film “Adipurush” directed by Om Raut, which has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community by portraying religious leaders/characters/figures in a false and unwarranted manner Unlike the description of Hindu religious leaders/characters mentioned in Ramayana written by authors like Maharishi Valmiki, Saint Tulsidas etc.

Aggrieved, concerned and hurt by such misrepresentation of religious leaders/characters in the film ‘Adipurush’, the petitioner made a representation dated 04.10.2022 to the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. However, the said representation has not been replied to till date”, read the petition.

The petition further states that the depiction of Ravana, Lord Rama, Mother Sita and Hanuman in the feature film Adipurush is contrary to the image and description of these religious leaders/characters/figures depicted in Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayana and Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas. It states that the PIL is filed ‘for the benefit of the public, who may themselves be unable to approach the court as they are not fully/properly equipped financially and legally’.

Helmed by Om Raut and produced by Bhushan Kumar, the film is based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita and Sunny Singh as Laxman. Saif Ali Khan is seen playing the role of Ravana in the film. The film has received an overwhelming response from the fans.
