Government stirred by SP election promise: Akhilesh on electricity waiver

A day after the Yogi Adityanath-led government slashed electricity rates for farmers with tubewells in half, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said his party’s poll promise of free electricity created “panic” in the government and prompted it to announce a waiver.

“Our first announcement of providing free electricity up to 300 units to the poor in the new year has stirred the government. Now, I hear they are reducing electricity prices and halving the charges for farmers. We want to give it away for free, while they want to halve it. Now the public will decide what they want, Akhilesh said after unveiling the statue of former minister Vinod Kumar Singh in Gonda.

The SP chief also said that his party would give Rs 25 lakh to the families of 700 farmers killed in protest against the agriculture laws.

Hitting out at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Akhilesh said, “You should ask why the CM is asking for tickets for the upcoming elections from different seats.” no one is giving him tickets… he is not a member BJP, Senior BJP leaders are unhappy with him. They are saying that he worked very hard to form the party and he (Adityanath) came and took over the chair. What a weak CM he is.”
