AlphabetGoogle on Friday said it has fired a senior software engineer who claimed the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot LaMDA was a self-aware person.
GoogleThe company, which last month placed software engineer Blake Lemoine on leave, said it violated company policies and found its claims on LaMDA to be “completely baseless.”
A Google spokesperson said in an email to Reuters, “It is regrettable that, despite prolonged engagement on this topic, Blake chose to continue to violate explicit employment and data protection policies, including a requirement to protect product information. ”
Last year, Google said https://bit.ly/3Os9QqD that LaMDA – the Language Model for Dialog Applications – was built on the company’s research showing that Transformer-based language models trained on dialogue that required Can learn to talk literally.
Google and several prominent scientists dismissed Lemoine’s ideas as misleading, saying that LaMDA is simply a complex algorithm designed to explain human language.
Lemoine’s dismissal was first reported by Big Technology, a tech and society newsletter.
