The singer admitted that people often think that his wife is their mother at first glance because of their significant age difference.

De Freest, who was born in America and also worked as a political pundit, joked, “They’re like, “He loves them both so much.”

‘Or they see us kiss, and they’re like, “What?” Zelg said. ‘But in real life no one has ever really said anything negative to us.’

The couple met on Tinder and were together for less than a year when Zelg popped the question during a performance in London. Shortly after, de Freist proposed to her during a trip to Brazil.

They were married on June 8, 2019, at a 5-star hotel in London, with both brides wearing elegant white gowns and pink hair for their big day.

De Friest is eight years older than his wife’s mother, but their families have been supportive of their union. The only time they face backlash on their relationship is online.

'A lot of the hate comments are really funny, and they all have really bad punctuation and grammar,' explained Zelg, originally from Brazil but living in London with de Freist.

‘I start reading comments and when I see that there’s something negative I blur my eyes and move on to the next,’ explained Zelg, who has more than 300,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 70,000 followers on Instagram.

“Sometimes mean comments bother me,” she admitted. ‘We are only human.’

When Zelf pulled out his phone, he shared that a man commenting on one of his posts simply wrote ‘demon’ in all capital letters.

She explained, ‘A lot of the hate comments are really funny, and they all have really bad punctuation and grammar.

Another person wrote to De Freist, ‘Mom, I need you to come back home and leave the miners alone!!’

‘It’s terrible,’ said Zelg, but de Freist could do nothing but laugh.

‘However, it’s actually a lot of fun,’ she insisted.

Someone else accused Zelg of being a gold digger, which is a common misconception people have about their marriage.

‘Does the old lady have money?’ the stranger asked. That’s the only reason I can see. Surely not love!!!

Zelg notes that his wife “has no money,” and she is actually their household earner.

“I don’t mean to be disrespectful or anything, but I make more than Eileen, and it’s awful for me to come out and say that,” she said. ‘It annoys me a lot because I work too hard.’

Zelg recalls how she immigrated to the UK from Brazil, saying she put herself through college and graduate school to get to where she is today.

‘I will never take anyone’s money, and I will never be with anyone for money,’ she insisted.

However, the most offensive comment read aloud by Zelg and de Friest came from an online troll who compared their love to a war crime.

‘I bet Hitler would commit a worse crime if he came back from the Gulag,’ the man wrote, prompting him to point out that the sentence was redundant and historically incorrect.

This stranger began to confuse Hitler’s Nazi concentration camps with the Gulag, a system of labor camps in the Soviet Union from 1930 to 1955.

All the sentences are wrong. I mean, my English is s**t, but my English is even better,’ Zelg said. ‘Honestly, do you seriously think that being gay and living with an older man is worse than Hitler? that’s messed up.’

Another online troll claimed that he advised them to ‘repent and follow Christ’ so that they do not burn in hell for ‘eternity’.

Zelg estimates that half of the hate comments she receives are religion-based, and while she supports religious freedom, she is against people using their beliefs as an excuse to spread hatred.

Someone else dared to ask her why she didn’t ‘marry a man’ as she is a ‘beautiful girl’.

‘It’s just so offensive,’ she said. ‘It’s like, “Oh, you’re only a lesbian because you’re ugly or no man wants you.”

De Freist said that he has faced many criticisms that have been based on his looks.

‘It’s not about you,’ he told his wife. ‘It’s about my obesity. You know what I mean? My heaviness has been part of it. Fat people and skinny people are not often seen together.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of fatphobia out there, and it ties us together into looking even more unconventional,’ agreed Zelg.

He said, “I think a lot of it has to do with the wrong way because they find it weird that two women are together in the first place, and they can’t even think of older women as sexual beings.” ”

Zelg and De Friest took a selfie during the episode and posted it to social media before reading the comments out loud. They were happy to see that many of them were positive.

‘Love you two beautiful ladies, inside and out!!!!!!’ One user wrote, while another added, ‘Such a beautiful picture of both of you.’
