Effie Fletcher returns to West Indies squad for women’s ODI series against South Africa – India Times English News

Veteran leg-spinner and right-handed batsman Effie Fletcher has returned from maternity leave for the women’s ODI series against South Africa Women at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg from January 25 to February 7.

The 18-man squad for the series announced by Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Saturday (IST) also has three uncapped players – conservative left-arm bowler Ksenia Schultz; Mandy Mangroo, right-handed batsman; and Genelia Glasgow, right arm medium pacer. All three were members of the West Indies women’s A team, which played against Pakistan’s women’s A team last year.

CWI’s principal selector for women’s cricket, Ann Brown-John, said, “The South Africa series comes at an opportune time as the team prepares for the upcoming World Cup (in New Zealand). The squad has been preparing and building for the past year, even despite the limitations caused by the pandemic and hoping they can put it together. The return of veteran Effie Fletcher adds extra variety to the bowling, especially with the absence of Kiana Joseph who has been ruled out due to injury.

West Indies Women will arrive in South Africa on January 16 for a four-match ODI series against Proteas Women before their practice camp.

“In our drive to continue expanding our player pool, the panel has included three young, uncapped players. They are Ksenia Schultz, Mandy Mangroo and teen Genelia Glasgow. This experience for international cricket at this time will give them the experience and match time they need to develop and develop their individual talents. The panel believes this mix of youth and experience will work well as we continue our preparations for the World Cup,” said Brown-John.
