Dear Prime Minister,
‘Because of the neglect of the past, in the face of the most obvious warnings, we have entered a period of danger.
The era of procrastination, of half-hearted measures, of pleasantly surprising measures, of delays is drawing near. Instead, we are entering an era of results. (Winston Churchill 1936)
Insulate Britain would like to take this opportunity to deeply acknowledge the disruption that has occurred over the past five weeks. We cannot imagine doing such an act under normal circumstances. But we have to face the bitter reality of our situation.
The facts put forth by Sir David King, former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government, said, ‘We have to move quickly. I believe that what we do will decide the future of humanity in the next three-four years.
Climate degradation is happening all around us. We face economic chaos and breakdown of law and order in just a few years. We will lose our income, pension and savings, passing on a horrific legacy to our children. They would be really furious. Thousands of millions of people around the world will lose their lives to slaughter and starvation as crops fail and society collapses.
Ahead of COP26, Insulate Britain will suspend its campaign of civil resistance until Monday 25 October. In the light of your speech (on 22nd September at the United Nations) in which you acknowledged that ‘we are approaching that critical juncture – in less than two months – when we have to show that we can learn and are able to mature, and finally take responsibility for the destruction we are inflicting not only on our planet but also on ourselves’, we use this time to indicate to you that what you say believe in.
We invite you to make a meaningful statement that we can rely on, a statement that the nation wants to hear: that your government will fulfill its responsibilities to protect law and order, to protect us; that your Government will take necessary initiatives to save and restore our homes; That it would ‘move on with the job’ so that families could feed their children and keep their homes warm.
We invite you to do the right thing, so that we can be safe in the knowledge that our government has done everything possible to protect and defend our country.
