A deputy superintendent of police, who was probing illegal stone-mining, died on Tuesday after he rammed into a truck indicating a stop in Haryana’s Nuh district, officials said. Tauru DSP Surendra Singh signaled to stop a dumper-truck to check documents in the Aravalli hills in Pachgaon area near Tauru, but the driver overturned it.
The driver and the gunman jumped to save their lives, but the DSP got hurt.
He was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Meanwhile, the Nuh police have caught the truck driver accused of crushing the DSP with a truck. The man, identified as Akkad, was injured in an encounter with the police hours after Tauru’s deputy DSP Surendra Singh was killed. He has been taken to Nalhar Medical College. DGP has reached Haryana Community Health Center (CHC) Nuh where the post-mortem of Surendra Singh is to be done.
According to the police, Surendra Singh was recruited as an assistant-sub-inspector in the Haryana Police in 1994. He was presently posted as DSP, Tauru, and was due to retire in four months.
He was a native of Sarangpur village in Hisar and currently lived with his family in Kurukshetra.
Nuh district is notorious for attacks on police by mining mafia. On an average 50 such complaints have been registered every year since 2015.
