Driver charged after Guelph police noticed a large mattress on the roof of a moving car – Guelph |

A cover of darkness prevented a motorist from being stopped by police, who saw the driver using a creative way to transport a load.

Just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, near the intersection of Victoria Road and College Avenue, Guelph Police Service says officers stopped a vehicle that was carrying mattresses and box springs on the roof in an unsafe manner.

Investigators say a bed sheet was draped over the mattress and box spring, with the driver and front passenger holding the edges of the sheet to keep everything in place while driving.

A 26-year-old from Guelph was charged with operating with unsafe loads under the Highway Traffic Act.
