Police on Wednesday arrested the driver of a car for blocking the way of an ambulance on National Highway-66 from Thokkottu to Pumpwell in Dakshina Kannada district.
The accused has been identified as Charan (31), who works in the animation industry. The incident happened on Monday evening, a video clipping of which soon went viral on social media, with netizens demanding punishment for him.

A senior police officer said that around 5.30 pm when an ambulance was taking a patient from Kanachur hospital to Mangaluru, a car was blocking its way. The incident was recorded on mobile phones and shared on social media.
According to Mangaluru police, the station officer of Mangaluru Traffic South police station registered a case under IPC section 279 (speeding or riding a vehicle in a public manner) and section 194(e) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. video clipping.
talking to indianexpress.comN Sashi Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City said, “After we got the video clipping, we found that the driver was obstructing the smooth movement of an emergency vehicle. He was also driving in a dangerous manner. Based on the registration number, we arrested Charan and he confessed that he was driving the car.
“Now we are probing whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol or any other drug,” he said.
Shashi Kumar also appealed to the public to always allow right of way to ambulances and emergency vehicles as they are running to save lives.
