Delhi: UP Police informer, 4 others arrested for robbing Rs 75 lakh as cops

Five persons, including a 20-year-old informer of Uttar Pradesh Police, have been arrested by the Central District Police for allegedly posing as policemen to rob the employees of a scrap dealer worth Rs 75 lakh.

DCP (Central District) Shweta Chauhan said the arrested people have been identified as Mohammad Rizwan (20), Mohammad Salman (26), Mohammad Shoaib (22), Mohammad Shahbuddin (32) and Saqib Hasan (21).

“During interrogation, one of the accused Rizwan revealed that he is an informer of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the UP Police and earlier worked as an accountant in a scrap factory. He knew about his former employer’s daily collection and shared with his friends a plan to launder the collection money. As he also knows the working style of the police, he decided to commit dacoity as police personnel,” said a senior police officer.

According to complainant Nizamuddin, Chauhan said, the incident took place on December 28. Nizamuddin and his friend Shahjawan had gone to Peeragarhi to collect a payment of Rs 25 lakh.

“After receiving the first payment, they went to Karol Bagh from where they collected another payment of Rs 50 lakh. While returning to his employer’s office, he took the wrong side of the road to reach the Rani Jhansi flyover. Five men posing as policemen stopped them and asked one of them to come for questioning. One of the accused took an employee on a bike. On the way, the accused stopped his bike, slapped the employee and robbed him of the bag, which contained the recovery money,” Chauhan said.

Several teams were formed and they started scanning the CCTV cameras and found the five suspects on two motorcycles.

“All of them were wearing masks and it was found that a suspect was following the victim from Peeragarhi. His bike had UP registration and after checking with the transport authority, the police were able to identify the owner of the bike as Saqib. The police first arrested Saqib and on his behest arrested his associates. Police have recovered Rs 60 lakh from their possession.
