Panna (MP), July 22
Police on Thursday arrested Rani of the erstwhile princely state of Panna in Madhya Pradesh after her mother-in-law accused her of threatening to kill her, an official said.
Jiteshwari Devi (about 50 years old) was arrested from the royal palace on the basis of a complaint lodged by Rajmata Dilhar Kumari (about 75). A local court then sent him to judicial custody, he said.
According to the sources of the palace, there is a dispute going on in the royal family for a long time, especially between Rajmata Dilhar Kumari and her daughter-in-law Jiteshwari Devi over property and diamonds worth crores of rupees.
“Jiteshwari Devi was arrested and charged under threat of firearms. After his arrest, he was produced in a court, which sent him to judicial custody,” Kotwali police station inspector Arun Kumar Soni told PTI.
Talking to reporters before boarding the vehicle to the police station, Jiteshwari Devi said, “I am innocent. This is a false complaint against me to take revenge.”
Inspector Soni said that Rajmata has alleged in her complaint that on the night of June 19 (last month) Jiteshwari Devi along with others assaulted her and her group in the palace and damaged property. The complainant said that Jiteshwari and her group threatened her with firearms.
Both sides live in the same palace, he said, adding that they are fighting civil (land) matters.
Based on the complaint of Rajmata, the police have registered a case against six people. Soni said one was arrested two days ago, while four of Jiteshwari Devi’s accomplices are still absconding.
He said Jiteshwari Devi has been booked under IPC sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 458 (secretly entering house or breaking into house at night) and others.
He said that he has also been charged under relevant sections of the Arms Act. PTI
