Daily increase in new coronavirus infections below 30,000 for 20 consecutive days

New Delhi, 14 October

India recorded 18,987 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally of infections to 3,40,20,730 on Thursday, while the national Covid recovery rate rose to 98.07 per cent, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll reached 4,51,435 with 246 new deaths, showed data updated at 8 am.

The daily increase in new coronavirus infections has been below 30,000 for 20 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases for 109 consecutive days.

The ministry said the active cases have come down to 2,06,586, comprising 0.61 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid recovery rate has been recorded at 98.07 per cent.

A decrease of 1,067 cases has been recorded in the active Covid caseload in a 24-hour period.

A total of 13,01,083 tests were conducted on Wednesday, taking the cumulative number of tests conducted so far for COVID detection in the country to 58,76,64,525.

The number of people recovering from the disease increased to 33362709, while the death rate was recorded at 1.33 percent.

According to the Health Ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.46 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 1.44 percent.

So far, more than 96.82 crore Kovid vaccine doses have been given in the country under the nationwide vaccination campaign. PTI
