Cruiser collides with vehicle while trying to avoid police in Cambridge | globalnews.ca

Waterloo Regional Police say a cruiser was damaged after an officer spotted a stolen vehicle in Cambridge on Monday morning.

Police say the stolen Hyundai was initially seen on Ballantine Avenue just before 9 a.m., but fled upon sight of police.

According to police, officers briefly tracked the missing automobile on Chalmers Street South, but it sped off again, having gone through a stop sign without stopping.

They say it was then found on Franklin Boulevard, but the driver made a mid-jump before hitting a cruiser that was trying to box it in and it once again fled the scene.

Officers did not pursue the vehicle for the sake of public safety, but were able to track it down and arrest the driver a short time later.

For police, disobeying a stop sign, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
