Covering Our Heroes: Quilts of the Velor Organization Sewing Quilts for Local Veterans

Ensuring that our heroes are covered the way they did, or are doing, is the mission of the Quilts of Valor organization for our nation.

Founded in 2003, the Quilts of Valor Foundation on a mission to create healing and bring comfort to war-affected veterans and service members.

Giants like David Washington of North Olmsted.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Washington was awarded the Quilt of Valor after his neighbors came together to honor him.

Stitched together by Lorraine County Peacemakers, Washington’s Quilt of Valor was honored in a surprise gathering.

“It’s quite an achievement, let me tell you,” said Washington, admiring her quilt. “I’ve never seen anything well built, you might say. It’s gorgeous.”

Since 2003, Quilts of Velor has recruited over 10,000 volunteers from across the country to help with the manufacture and distribution of quilts, providing more than 250,000 Quilts of Velor to service members and veterans.
