A strategically well-coordinated attack on former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh over his relationship with a Pakistani journalist did not go as planned, as the Capt decided to fight back. .
Ever since Amarinder openly declared that he was not against the idea of allying with the BJP if it managed to solve the farmers’ issue, the Congress has committed the crime of humiliating him. Repeated statements made by Amarinder indicated to the party that under the leadership of PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab would not be safe and the ISI may try to disturb the peace.
Party insiders revealed that the senior leadership, sensing the intentions of Captain’s ISI, had decided to drag on the issue of Pakistani journalist and his friend Arosa Alam for years.
First, it was initiated by Mohammad Mustafa, an aide of Sidhu, who “reminded the chief minister about his relationship with a Pakistani”. A few days later, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa announced a probe to ascertain Arosa’s links with the ISI after the PCC chief’s wife Navjot Kaur raised the issue of Arosa’s interference in the state administration. “The strategy was simple. Since he was pushing for the ISI threat, we wanted to remind him that back home he was hosting a Pakistani who was suspected,” confirmed a senior leader.
But the move seems to have not yielded the desired result. According to party insiders, the personal attacks were aimed at putting pressure on Amarinder. But the swift and acrimonious reaction of the former CM seems to have taken the party by surprise. “He had so far chosen to remain silent on this aspect of his life. But personal attacks seem to have given him ammunition to retaliate,” said a leader close to the Capt.
Amarinder has spoken openly about his relationship with a Pakistani journalist. One leader remarked, “Not only that, he has released pictorial evidence to suggest that Arosa had good relations with people from different levels, political circles.”
Amarinder on Monday shared pictures of Arusa with prominent personalities on Facebook, even taking a dig at her for the “narrow mindset” of the Congress.
