CJCSC Gen Raza calls on Iranian President, discusses bilateral and strategic cooperation

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Nadeem Raza – who is currently in Iran on an official visit, called on President Ibrahim Raisi and discussed matters of bilateral strategic interest and regional security environment with him.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday, the two sides displayed their willingness to initiate meaningful and long-term security and defense cooperation between Pakistan and the neighboring country.

General Raza held separate meetings with Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad-Reza Gharei Ashtani, Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Commander-in-Chief Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Major General Hossein Salami, Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral . Shahram Irani and Commander of the Iranian Air Force Brigadier General Hamid Waheedi.

The dignitaries discussed measures to increase the level and scope of military engagement between the two countries and promised to build deeper ties, the statement said. “Both sides highlighted that shared boundaries should be ‘the boundaries of peace and friendship’.”

Meanwhile, the Iranian military leadership appreciated the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifice in the fight against terrorism.

Earlier, on arrival at the General Staff Headquarters, a wily detachment presented General Raza with a guard of honour.

Last month, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Visited Iran too. During the visit, he met the Iranian President and reaffirmed Pakistan’s deep desire to strengthen bilateral ties with the country.

Bilawal also raised the issue of release and transfer of Pakistani prisoners lodged in Iranian jails.
