Chicago shooting: Video shows dramatic shootout between CPD, carjacking suspects

CHICAGO (WLS) – Three people have been charged after a shootout with Chicago police, one of whom was seriously injured Wednesday night.

Chicago police said officers were attempting to stop a car that had been driven into a carjacking with three people. According to the CPD, after the car was pulled over, as officers approached the vehicle, there was an exchange of bullets.

Edgardo Perez, 24, was shot by police and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in a serious but stable condition. He is now charged with attempted first-degree murder of a Chicago police officer.

Two other people in the car have been taken into custody. Jesse Sanchez, 21, and Noel Centeno, 20, also now face serious charges for alleged possession of a stolen vehicle and weapons charges.

Police said two weapons were recovered, a pistol with a laser sight and a revolver.

Video obtained by the ABC7 I-Team from law enforcement sources shows the dramatic confrontation that took place when Chicago police shot a man in the heart of the city on Wednesday night.

The shooting took place around 8:45 p.m. near Lower Wacker Drive and Columbus Drive, an area that travels heavily on both sides near the Chicago River.

According to police, no officer was shot, but a 34-year-old officer and a 30-year-old officer were taken to local hospitals for treatment for minor injuries.

The ages and genders of those taken into custody have not been released.

The scene cleared at around 4.30 am on Thursday and a car full of bullet holes was pulled from the spot.

The Civil Office of Police Accountability said it was responding to the shooting.

Brian Burns said he was a witness.

“As I was like pulling into that intersection, I started to hear gunshots. I think it was between six and 10; I can’t really remember how many. Within two minutes 20-30 cops It was like cars right there on the scene. You know, it was clear to me that it wasn’t a traffic stop,” he said.
