CBI to probe extortion charge against 3 CID officers: Suvendu

Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday claimed that the CBI will be probing the extortion allegations levelled by a Mumbai-based businessman last year against three Bengal CID officials.

Posting on X on Wednesday, the BJP MLA said, “The investigation regarding the FIR which was earlier filed against WB CID Officers; Rajarshi Banerjee, Sumit Banerjee and others for extortion on the basis of the complaint made by one businessman Jitendra Navlani at the Worli Police Station; Mumbai, alleging that 3 WB CID & Police Officers extorted money from him, has now been taken up by the CBI…”

“A few months ago, the Govt of Maharashtra had transferred the investigation of C.R.No. 1181/2022 at Worli Police Station; Mumbai City; Maharashtra to @CBIHeadquarters. According to media reports, Navlani had also named the DGP and the ADGP of WB Police in his complaint,” Adhikari wrote.

In 2022, Mumbai-based Jitendra Navlani filed an FIR against three Bengal CID officers at the Worli police station alleging extortion. Navlani also alleged that he and his wife were threatened with dire consequences and were told not to approach the police. However, the state police are yet to take any action in the case.
