CBI files chargesheet against 2 commanders in naval leak case

New Delhi, 24 November

The CBI has filed a chargesheet against two naval commanders, Jagdish and Abhishek Shaw, in connection with the alleged leak of confidential information related to the INS Sindhuratna-MRLC project, officials said on Wednesday.

In the latest chargesheet, the agency has named Commander Ajit Pandey and retired naval officer Commodore Randeep Singh for allegedly “leakage of information relating to advance payment related to INS Sindhuratna-MRLC project”, he said.

He said that while two charge sheets have already been filed against the six persons, the investigation is still on against Naval officers Commander Jagdish and Commander Abhishek Shaw, who were arrested on September 21.

The CBI filed a charge sheet against Commander Jagdish and Commander Shaw on November 20, he said.

He said several accused, including retired officers Commodore Randeep Singh and Commander SJ Singh, serving officers Commander Ajit Pandey, Commander Jagdish and executive director of Hyderabad-based Allen Reinforced Plastics Ltd, have already been granted default bail in the case.

The defense counsel successfully managed to point out that the CBI admitted that the Official Secrets Act (OSA) investigation was on, but failed to mention it in the chargesheet, which made the chargesheet against the accused incomplete. , thereby making them eligible for default bail.

An accused becomes eligible for default bail if the investigating agency does not file the charge sheet within the stipulated period of 60 days or 90 days, depending on the charges leveled. PTI
