Cardinals’ Kyler Murray focused on winning after signing big extension: ‘I really don’t do it for the money’

After signing a five-year, $230.5 million deal, he doubled down on that commitment.

“Never. This is where I want to be. I made it clear,” Murray said during a news conference on Friday asking whether he was considering moving.

“I’m talking about worse days, just the negativity Taking heat all over social media, and all that stuff. …I’m a quiet dude when it comes to social media and stuff like that. To be able to just sit there and take all that kind of shots and stuff, that’s what it is.”

Murray was reportedly unhappy with the contract negotiations during the off-season, and his agent made it clear that he Offered in February This was “in line with the current quarterback market” and reflects Murray’s success during the 2021–2022 season, when he led the Cardinals to the playoffs with an 11–6 record.

“I’m an Arizona Cardinal,” Murray said at the time, dismissing anyone rift speculation, “I’ve done nothing but give my all to the Cardinals and will continue to do so. I’m really not too worried about my future as a Cardinal.”

He reiterated that sentiment on Friday.

“I understand it’s part of the business,” Murray said. “I let them take care of what they have to take care of. I love the game of football, and my goal is to win the championship.”

Cardinals General Manager Steve Keem said “both sides” were “happy” with the deal.

Murray’s contract, which includes a $160 million guarantee, makes him NFL. second highest paid player in Behind Aaron Rodgers. But, for Murray, it was never about the money, he said.
