Bus driver transporting Pirates pulled over for erratic driving, arrested on DUI charge

An Illinois State Police escort said it decided to stop the bus after noticing some erratic driving.

the police said The driver, later identified as Ronald E. Funderburk, 61, of North Carolina, displayed multiple signs of impairment

Funderburk was acting as a contractor and has no direct ties to the team.


Brian Warecki, Pirates’ senior vice president of communications, confirmed the incident, saying, “We are deeply concerned by what happened last night.”

Warecki said there were no injuries.

“The important thing is that all our personnel arrived in milwaukee safely. … We are now in contact with the appropriate parties regarding this matter.”
