‘How far has it traveled to get here?’ Bloke makes an astonishing discovery inside an Australian creek – so what is it?

An Australian bloke has discovered dozens of rocks in an Australian creek that could be meteorites.

Oscar Vastag found a 586-gram piece of rock earlier this month in a creek bed in Daylesford, Victoria.

He soon discovered it was magnetic.

After returning to the site on Tuesday, he discovered more than a dozen similar other rocks.

Physicist Dr Gail Iles told 3AW Mornings she believes the initial object found might be a meteorite because it’s magnetic.

However, she warns further testing is required for a definitive answer.

‘My immediate instinct is to get this analyzed, then we can answer the question once and for all — is it definitely a meteorite,’ she explained.

‘And if it is, then the investigation begins. Where did it come from? How old is it? Where did it form? How far has it traveled to get here?’ she said.

The rock has now been sent for testing at Clayton’s scientific research centre, where an extremely powerful x-ray will be conducted to determine if the object is indeed from outer space.
