Lucknow: BJP UP is ready with its first list of 172 candidates for the polls, most of them to be voted in the first three phases, after a meeting in New Delhi on Thursday put its stamp of approval on the names that would be considered as probable names. Huh . Can be declared on Friday or Saturday.
As reported by TOI on Thursday, CM Yogi Adityanath From Ayodhya and deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya has been fielded from Sirathu. Maurya was elected from Sirathu in 2012. Other Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma could contest from Lucknow North, Lucknow East or Bakshi Ka Talab. Sources said the widespread view within the BJP that Yogi’s candidature from Ayodhya will strengthen the saffron party’s Hindutva foundation is at the core of its quest for a second consecutive term in office.
Maurya told a press conference at the BJP headquarters that the leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was of the opinion that the party would register a bigger victory than the 2017 assembly elections. Modi attended the meeting in virtual mode, as did BJP president JP Nadda and union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, all three of whom are recovering from Covid. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Yogi and several other central functionaries were physically present at the venue.
It is understood that in the first list, BJP has decided to field minister Suresh Rana from Thana Bhawan, although the decision is in the hands of Bhupendra Chaudhary.
