opening night dodger stadium One was exciting, but the action wasn’t strictly confined to baseball games.
Although the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-2, the most talked-about event of the evening happened when a romantic, life-changing gesture turned into something more closely resembling a football game.
At one point in the game, Dodgers fan Ricardo Juarez came up with the idea of running onto the field of play, taking out a ring, and proposing to his girlfriend sitting in the crowd.
But before he could get an answer, a security guard jumped on Juarez in a bone-crushing tackle.
Video captured on phones around the stadium showed hard-charging security staff running at full speed at Juarez, who was already on one knee, before pinning him to the ground. Two other security guards are also seen pouncing on Juarez, before handcuffing and dragging him away.
Juarez’s girlfriend, Ramona Saavedra, later revealed on Instagram. she said yesBut that reunion with his now-fiancée took several hours as he faced the consequences of his romantic, but illegal, gesture.
“Ok, best proposal ever,” he wrote on Instagram. “I love you and yes, I will marry you.”
Saavedra said Juarez was taken to jail and released a few hours later. There is no news on whether he will be allowed to return to Dodger Stadium in the future.
The newly-wed couple posed together for a photo after the dust had settled, showing off Saavedra’s shiny new sparklers.
Of course, the internet has had a field day with the footage.
As any good professional sports fan knows, trying to get on the field in any stadium is a big no-no, so chances are he expected to take off. However, he probably didn’t see that rough tackle in his future. The things we do for love!
