Babysitter caught on camera beating child in MP; Arrested

Jabalpur, June 15

A female midwife in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur town was caught on a CCTV camera thrashing a two-year-old child when the child’s parents were not at their home, police said on Wednesday.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Agarwal said that the accused Rajni Ahirwar was arrested on Tuesday.

A clip of the CCTV footage also went viral on the social media platform.

The official said that the child’s parents, both of whom are working, suspected something wrong as the child was falling ill and became physically weak, despite the fact that they met with him before leaving the house. They used to have enough food for them, the official said.

They later installed a CCTV camera in the room where the midwife lived with the child in the house.

Later, they saw the recording of the camera, which showed Ahirwar repeatedly thrashing the child, the officer said.

The mother of the child has lodged a complaint against the midwife at Madhotal police station.

Based on the complaint, the accused was arrested and a case was registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the official said.

Police said the child’s parents are government employees and in their absence they had hired a midwife to look after their child.
