SYDNEY: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Wednesday that unvaccinated tennis players will have to undergo a mandatory two-week COVID-19 quarantine if they want to travel to the country for the Australian Open tournament.

“Whether you’re a Grand Slam winner, prime minister, business traveler, student, or someone else, the same rules apply,” Morrison told Seven News on Wednesday.

Men’s world number one Novak Djokovic has refused to disclose his vaccination status and said last week that he cannot play “as things are” in the tournament.

Melbourne, the country’s second largest city and host of the Australian Open, will allow quarantine-free entry to fully vaccinated international travelers from 1 November.
