At least 5 killed in 6.3 magnitude 3 earthquake off Iran’s Gulf Coast

At least five people were killed in a 6.1-magnitude earthquake in southern Iran early Saturday, state media reported, with two strong 6.3-magnitude quakes later also struck the region.

“Five people have died in the quake … and 12 are hospitalized so far,” said Mehrdad Hasanzadeh, head of emergency management in Hormozgan province on Iran’s Gulf Coast. “Rescue work has been done and we are now providing tents as emergency accommodation.”
