South African officials said police arrived at Enyobeni Tavern in Scenery Park in the southern city of east London after receiving reports from the public early on Sunday.

Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said: ‘The circumstances under which he died are being investigated’, adding that it was too early to determine the cause of death for all adults aged 18 to 20.

The Daily Dispatch reporter claimed that those who were killed were either exposed to some kind of poison or were killed during the stampede.
