At Ford, Quality Is Now Problem 1

Josh Halliburton joined Ford Motor Co. in January to help improve its shaky quality record. Within months it was clear how big a challenge he faced.

In May, the auto giant recalled some Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators after reports of fires while vehicles were parked. In June, it recalled roughly 49,000 Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs over concerns that the battery could overheat and cause the vehicle to lose power. In the first seven months of the year, Ford had 46 separate safety recalls on 6.8 million vehicles, more than any other U.S. auto maker.
